Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a meeting in Washington on Wednesday with Robert Malley, the US special envoy to Iran, to exchange views on the situation in the Middle East, said Ahmed Hafez, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a post on his account on Twitter.

Shoukry is currently visiting Washington in the context of intensifying communication and consultation between the two friendly countries to strengthen all frameworks of distinguished strategic relations and exchange visions on the most prominent regional and international issues of common concern.

Noteworthy, Shoukry held talks on Wednesday, with his US counterpart, Antony Blinken, in Washington, DC, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez said.

The spokesman added that the official talks between Shoukry and Blinken tackled aspects of bilateral and strategic relations. They also discussed several international and regional issues of mutual interest.

Moreover, both officials underlined the importance of continuing consultations and coordination between Egypt and the US.

At the outset of their meeting, Blinken welcomed Shoukry, saying, “It’s a particular pleasure for me to be able to welcome the foreign minister. We were together just a few weeks ago in the Negev for what was an extraordinary occasion: a meeting with our counterparts from Israel, the UAE, Morocco, Bahrain, and our two countries.”

He also praised Egypt’s sincere efforts to establish stability, and security in the region, and to strengthen its strategic partnership with the US.

On his part, Shoukry noted that the strategic partnership that exists now between Egypt and the US for over four decades ‘has been mutually beneficial.’

“I believe there is much more work for both of us to do to further strengthen the relationship, and also to deal with the various challenges that I believe we can only meet through the continuing of our cooperation and our interaction,” Egypt’s top diplomat added.

Moreover, Shoukry highlighted the importance that Egypt attaches to the ‘multifaceted’ and ‘very deep’ relationship that exists between Cairo and Washington.
