Shoukry Discusses Cooperation with Pakistani PM

On Monday, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. He delivered Khan a letter from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

This came among his high-level meetings in Pakistan. The visit is an opportunity to give more impetus to bilateral relations.

Official Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Hafez said that the meeting dealt with aspects of bilateral relations between Egypt and Pakistan.

Shoukry stressed Egypt's aspiration to strengthen these relations at all levels, and give them more impetus and push them forward in a manner that achieves the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples, and enhances their ability to confront common challenges, foremost of which are efforts to combat terrorism.

It was also stressed during the meeting the need to continue cooperation and joint coordination between the two countries in international forums on issues of mutual interest, in light of Pakistan's current presidency of the Group of 77 and China. Moreover, they also discussed a number of regional and international files and issues of common interest.

On Friday, Shoukry met with the Indonesian Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nourbaya Bakar during his Asian tour. They discussed ways of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the environment field.

Shoukry met with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi. The discussed aspects of bilateral relations between Egypt and Indonesia and the means to enhance them.

According to the Foreign Ministery Spokesman, Ahmed Hafez, the two sides exchanged, during the meeting, views regarding the prominent regional and international issues of mutual interest.

Shoukry met, on Wednesday, with Singapore’s Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean (who is also the Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Climate Change) on his second stop in his ongoing Asian tour.

The foreign minister and Chee discussed ways of enhancing cooperation and coordination on climate in the coming period, in light of Egypt’s presidency and hosting of COP27, in addition to means of bolstering cooperation in various fields of mutual interest.

During the meeting, both also exchanged views regarding the important regional and international issues and evaluating their impact, as well as discussing ways to cooperate in the field of counter-terrorism.

Singapore’s Prime Minister (PM) Lee Hsien Loong received on Thursday Shoukry, who delivered him a message from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Shoukry handed over the handwritten message, which dealt with ways to enhance bilateral ties between both countries at various levels, as well as the ongoing efforts to prepare for the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the UNFCCC, which will be hosted, in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt next November, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez tweeted.

Moreover, the spokesman added that Egypt’s top diplomat emphasized the importance of further advancing cooperation in the various fields of bilateral relations and joint action, to meet the aspirations of the two friendly peoples and the volume of common interests between both countries.

It is worth mentioning that, last Sunday, FM began an Asian tour that includes Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Pakistan, to boost the distinguished ties between Egypt and these countries.
