Egypt’s Foreign Minister (FM) Sameh Shoukry received on Monday his Jordanian counterpart Ayman al Safadi before the extraordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level hosted in Cairo.

The meeting addressed ways to deal with recent developments related to the Palestinian cause, especially the settlement issue.

In this regard, Shoukry affirmed the Egyptian stance of abiding by the resolutions of international legitimacy and international law pertaining to the status of Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank as illegal and inconsistent with international law.

Moreover, the two ministers reviewed the progress witnessed by the bilateral relations between both countries, and ways to promote joint cooperation in all fields.

In addition, they exchanged views regarding various regional and international issues of common interest.

It is worth mentioning that last month, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Jordanian King Abdullah II and his wife Queen Rania Al Abdullah in Cairo.

The visit comes within the framework of the close relations between the two brotherly countries and the keenness of the political leaderships to push forward bilateral relations; this gives both states the necessary momentum in various political, economic and social fields in the common interest of the two peoples.

Egypt–Jordan enjoy very deeply-historical relations. The two countries are members of the Arab League, GAFTA, the World Trade Organization, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, the Council of Arab Economic Unity and the United Nations.

Diplomatic relations between the Egyptian and Jordanian governments existed since Jordan became independent in 1946.
