Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the activity of US strategic bombers near Russia's eastern border has increased significantly, noting that the US pilots are training on the option of using nuclear weapons against Russia.

The Russian minister added that military experts are observing a noticeable increase in the number of flights near the Russian border.

In the year 2020 alone, the strategic aircraft of the US Air Force conducted 22 flights over the Sea of Okhotsk, while in 2019 it made only three flights," Shoigu said during his meeting with the Chinese Defense Minister by phone. ".

According to the assessments of the Russian Defense Minister, the actions of American strategic bombers pose a threat not only to Russia but also to China.

Shoigu noted that "in the course of these actions, the American bomber crews are training to reach a range that allows the use of cruise missiles and conduct a hypothetical missile strike."

"In all cases, our air defense assets in time detected the "American strategic" bombers, established constant monitoring, and implemented measures to prevent accidents," Shoigu explained.

"It is against this background that Russian-Chinese coordination becomes a stabilizing factor in world affairs," Shoigu added.

Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that a MiG-31 fighter belonging to the Russian Air Force had intercepted an American B-B-1 bomber over the Sea of Japan, and did not allow it to violate the Russian border.

On Sunday, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that NATO should stop "provocations" on the Russian border.

"The United States and its allies must stop placing a military grip on our borders," Peskov added.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin recently confirmed that North Atlantic Treaty Organization ( NATO) strategic bombers are flying 20 km from the Russian border, which is something that crosses red lines.
