Sada El-Balad English (SEE) news website made an interview with South Korean Ambassador to Cairo Hong Jin-Wook.

How far would “Pyramids airshow 2022” strengthen the bilateral relations between Egypt and South Korea in the military field?
Until several years ago, it was not easy to imagine the airplanes of the Korean Air Force flying over the Pyramids. However, today, eight Black Eagles performed an aerobatics display in cooperation with Silver Stars above the beautiful Egyptian territories. As the case proves, military cooperation between two countries can take a big step at any time.
The area of cooperation between Egypt and Korea is already extending to diverse fields including defense industries. Today’s airshow is the result of already built strong trust between our two nations and will be the source of bigger future possibilities. Korea will continue its effort to further Egypt-Korea bilateral relations in all fields including and not limited to S&T, infrastructure, trade, investment, and most importantly people to people exchange.
2. The joint practice follows Korea’s participation at Egypt Defence Expo. When will we witness the next vehicle’s imports to Egypt?
Korea’s participation in the EDEX 2021 and the exchanges of high-level personnel resulted in creating momentum for defense industrial cooperation between the two countries. Korea has developed advanced defense technologies and is capable of manufacturing a variety of high-tech defense equipment.
Besides the K-9 howitzer, which we agreed to manufacture jointly here in Egypt last February, Korea is also trying to provide T-50 attack trainer, K2 Black Panther tank, etc in the form of joint manufacturing. It is not easy to predict which equipment will be next in presence in Egypt, but Korea will try to remain a reliable defense industry partner of Egypt at all times.

3. What are your thoughts on the two teams? And are there any chances that this joint drill happen again in the future?
Both are great teams with history. It was an honor to see these two teams performing together. They will consistently encounter each other on different airshows, and today’s valuable experience will help them to continue their relationship in the future.
