The iconic Egyptian star Mohamed Salah is so close to smash Liverpool Legend Steven Gerrard record goals in the UEFA Champions League.

Salah saved Liverpool after incredible comeback from Salzburg as he secured the Reds' 4-3 victory over the Austrian club.

After he netted twice during the last game, Salah became the third African player scoring twenty goals in the Champions League after the Ivorian retired legend Didie Drogba and the Cameroonian legend Samuel Eto'o.

The 27-year-old made 42 appearances with three teams in the Champions League, scoring twenty goals. He scored seventeen goals with the Reds, two goals with FC Basel, and only one goal with Roma in the 2015-16 season.

Gerrard, who is the all-time top scorer for the Reds at the Champions League, netted 21 goals. The iconic Egyptian star has a great chance to smash Gerrard's record as he needs only to net five goals to become the all-time top scorer for Champions League winners.

Here are the African scorers in the Champions League

1. Didie Drogba: 40 goals (Marseille, Chelsea, Galatasaray)

2. Samuel Eto'o: 30 goals ( Real Madrid, RCD Mallorca, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Chelsea)
