Liverpool Star Mohamed Salah came so close to hitting a new record after he was named among the top-ten players in Ballon d'Or.

Three African players have made the Ballon D’Or top ten; Riyad Mahrez, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Salah did not attend the Ballon d’Or ceremony, currently held at “Théâtre du Châtelet” in Paris, France.

Earlier, a list of Ballon D’Or rankings, which has been leaked on social media revealed that Messi would be awarded the prize, followed by Liverpool Defender Virgil van Dijk (2nd), Mo Salah (3rd), and the five-time Ballon D’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo (4th).

‘In the image shared on Twitter, Messi tops the voting with 446 points to van Dijk’s 382 in second,” Mirror reported.

If this leaked news proved to be true on Monday, Salah would come ahead of Ronaldo, smashing a new record in his glorious career.

Last year, Barcelona midfielder Luka Modric  won the 2018 prestigious award, ending seven years of dominance by Ronaldo and Messi.

The iconic Egyptian star took the fourth spot in the best FIFA player of the year rankings, preceded by Virgil van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo, while Argentine Lionel Messi won the best FIFA player of the year award.
