The director of the Gamalya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Ministry of Health, Dr. Alexander Ginzburg, announced today, Monday, that the nasal vaccine against the Coronavirus (known also as COVID-19) consists of two doses, but one can suffice if the dose is a booster.

Ginzburg's statements came during an exclusive interview with "Sputnik," a Russian news agency, in which he said, "The nasal vaccine against the Coronavirus consists of two doses in the first place."

He noted that at the same time that the initial vaccination will be in two doses, and one dose can be sufficient if the dose is enhanced and larger.

Earlier, the deputy head of the Gamalya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, Denis Logunov, announced that the nasal “Sputnik V” vaccine against the Coronavirus is painless, with minimal side effects, and will create an additional barrier in the upper respiratory tract.

Ginzburg revealed that the nasal Coronavirus vaccine has great advantages in terms of herd immunity because a person cannot transmit the virus to others after vaccination, according to the Russian TASS news agency.

He added, "Intranasal vaccination gives good advantages in terms of herd immunity. The person will never transmit this infection after receiving the nasal vaccine.”

He affirmed that a person who is vaccinated with regular vaccinations will not get sick, but the virus may be in the person’s mucous membrane, and therefore, the dangerous virus can be transmitted to unvaccinated people when they cough or sneeze.

The director of the center, Alexander Ginzburg, added that the nasal spray vaccine will be in addition to the regular vaccine to ensure an additional barrier to prevent infection.

The Russian expert confirmed that a person cannot transmit the Coronavirus after receiving a nasal vaccine.
