Russian and Belarusian athletes can participate in next year's Paralympic games in Paris after the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) voted against the full suspension of the two countries on Friday.
“IPC members voted 90-56 in favour of a motion to partially suspend NPC Russia (with six members abstaining),” the IPC announced in a statement.
“This decision was taken after members initially voted against a motion to fully suspend NPC Russia by 74-65 (with 13 abstentions).”
The Russian para-athletes “will be eligible to participate in an individual and neutral capacity (this means no teams) in the Paralympic Games,” the statement added.
The General Assembly of the IPC also voted to partially suspend the Belarusian Olympic committee.
Russian and Belarusian athletes can compete under a neutral flag.
