Russia's Ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov left Washington and headed via New York to Moscow for consultations, against the backdrop of US President Joe Biden's statements about his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin.

According to Russia Today News, the Antonov car left the Russian embassy area in Washington at noon, where he headed to New York to board a flight that will arrive in Moscow on Sunday.

The Russian Foreign Ministry had previously summoned Antonov against the background of Biden's recent statements about Putin, which had aroused wide repercussions in the two countries, and indeed in the international arena in general.

During an interview with "ABC" on March 17th, Biden pledged that Putin will pay the price for Russian interference in the US elections. He also stated, in response to a question about whether he considered his counterpart a murderer, "yes."

In response to these statements, Putin proposed to Biden to hold live talks as soon as possible to continue discussions between the two parties instead of "exchanging criticism in absentia."

During a statement made on Friday, Biden expressed his conviction to hold a conversation at a "certain stage" with Putin without providing a direct response to his proposal. Washington`s White House said that the two presidents would meet at the appropriate time.
