On Friday, the Russian institution Rosselkhoznadzor announced that Russia has become the first country in the world to manufacture a vaccine for animals.

In this regard, Russia has produced the world’s first batch - 17,000 doses - of COVID-19 vaccines for animals, according to the Russian agricultural regulator, according to Sky News Arabia.

Moreover, it announced that the first batch will be supplied to several regions of Russia soon.

On the other hand, companies from Germany, Greece, Poland, Austria, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Lebanon, Iran, and Argentina had expressed interest in purchasing the vaccine, according to international reports.

Lately, the World Health Organization has voiced concern over the risk of transmission of the virus between humans and animals.

On this basis, the Russian regulator has indicated that the new vaccine would be able to protect vulnerable species and thwart viral mutations.

In an official statement by the Russian watchdog, the national institution revealed: “About 20 organizations are ready to negotiate registration and supply of the vaccine to their countries. The file for registration abroad, in particular in the European Union, is under preparation and will be promptly used for the registration process.”

It's worth mentioning that a number of countries and research groups are working to produce an effective vaccine for animals, including the EU, which also revealed its plans to step up preparations for mass production.
