Russia welcomed on Monday, Egypt-brokered ceasefire in Gaza between Israel and Palestinian factions.
This came during a phone call between the Russian Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov and the head of the Hamas political bureau Ismail Haniyeh, according to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
On his part, Bogdanov reiterated Russia’s support for the immediate restoration of Gaza ceasefire, praising the Egyptian mediation efforts.
It is worth mentioning that, Egypt succeeded in approving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip after extensive contacts with the Islamic Jihad movement and the Israeli side. The Egyptian moves were crowned with success in stopping the bloodshed in Gaza, amid a state of popular and official welcome across the Palestinian territories.
