The Russian military said it had found bodies of 152 Ukrainian fighters in underground shelters at the Azovstal plant in Mariupol, which it seized earlier this month after a siege.
"There are 152 bodies of Ukrainian fighters and soldiers that were stored in a container without refrigeration," Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in Moscow on Tuesday.
He added that Moscow had not yet received any requests to transfer the bodies to the Ukrainian leadership.
Konashenkov announced the discovery of mines under the bodies, saying that the Ukrainian side might have intended to detonate the container to hold Russia responsible for their deaths.
