Media reports indicated on Tuesday that Tunisian President Kais Saied selected the name of the new prime minister (PM), and it will be officially announced in the upcoming few hours.

The reports told Al-Ain website that there were three main nominees for the position: Tawfik Sharaf El Din who held the portfolio of Ministry of Interior early this year, Nizar Yaaesh who held the portfolio of Ministry of Finance in 2014, and Hakim Ben Hamouda who held the portfolio of Ministry of Finance early this year.

However, a new name was added to Saied options who is the chairman of the Tunisian Central Bank Marawan Al Abbassi.

Therefore, sources expressed that the upcoming cabinet will include less than 11 ministers.

Last week, the Tunisian president decided to freeze the Tunisian parliament, suspend all members of parliament, and dismiss Mechichi from his post after mass protests took place in several Tunisian cities.

He added that he will assume the presidency of the executive branch with the help of a new prime minister.

Meantime, Tunisia’s Parliament Speaker Rached Ghannouchi, who is a pro–Muslim Brotherhood, accused the president of “bringing down the revolution”.
