King Salman Draws Up Saudi Arabia's Policies in 2019

CAIRO, Nov. 20 (SEE) - Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz gave his annual speech before the Shura Council members on Monday as he viewed domestic and foreign policies of the kingdom.

The Consultative Assembly of Saudi Arabia, known as Shura Council, is the formal advisory body of Saudi Arabia Kingdom. It has limited powers in government, including the power to propose laws to the King and his cabinet, but it cannot pass or enforce laws, which is a power reserved for the King.

The 150-member council is headed by a Speaker while other members are appointed by the King.

Saudi Domestic Vision in 2019

During his speech, King Salman stressed that Saudis are the main engine for development, adding that Saudi policies are based on moderation and tolerance in accordance with Islamic law, known as Sharia.

"Supporting private sector and its developmental empowerment top Saudi priorities," Salman noted.

King Salman instructed Crown prince Mohamed bin Salman (MBS), who chairs the Economic and Development Affairs Council, to develop human capabilities and support youth in finding jobs.

Saudi makes comprehensive efforts to fulfill the kingdom vision 2030, according to the king's speech.

Saudi-Foreign Policies

"The Palestinian issue and Palestinians rights are a priority for the kingdom," Salman manifested.

He pointed out that the kingdom will keep combating extremism and terrorism in parallel to its development role for investments opportunities.

In regards to the regional foe, Salman affirmed that the Iranian regime used to intervene in other countries' domestic affairs and support chaos and terrorism.

"Therefore, global powers should put an end to the Iranian ballistic and atomic programs," Salman added.

Supporting Yemen is an obligation, not a choice; to help Yemeni resist Iran-backed militias through a political solution, according to UN security resolution no. 2216, according to the king's speech.

Moreover, he stated that Saudi Arabia targets bilateral cooperation with Iraq in many fields and backs a political solution in Syria.
