Religious Complex is located in Old Cairo; it contains various churches and mosques as well as Jewish Temple” that is close to the historical mosque of Amr Ibn El ‘Aas.

The place is considered home to the three monotheistic religions and one of the oldest religious buildings in Egypt.

It’s a unique mystical spot in the Egyptian capital where the Qur’an, the Bible, and the Torah are continuously recited. It’s the multi-religious compound, which has ancient churches from the pre-Islamic conquest era.

The Holy family came to this spot since two thousand years ago for a hideout. Almost some 600 years later, Amr Ibn El-Aas chose a nearby spot to build the first Mosque in Egypt and the whole of Africa and the “Ben Ezra” Synagogue subtly nestled in the complex of churches.

The original mosque was built in 641 AD by Amr Ibn El-Aas and was the oldest mosque built in Africa, although it has been rebuilt over time.

Also, this is where you can start your journey inside the first group of the complex’s seven churches. The George Church, which is right across from the metro station.

Crossing through the gates of the Churches , you can find the “Star of David” on the main door and windows on the outside of building and a sign that reads “Property of the Jewish Community in Cairo”.

The complex contains “Coptic Museum” which opened in 1910 and holds ancient artefacts, art and sculptures from Egypt’s Christian history.

There’s also a bookshop, souvenir and antique shops that has some very interesting maps of Cairo. This special neighborhood serves as a perfect display of the three Ibrahamic religions.
