Nader Saad, the official spokesman for the Cabinet confirmed that the mandatory application of rationalizing electricity consumption begins on Saturday.
the official spokesman said that several local authorities, governorates and local units have already begun to reduce electricity, as the Prime Minister spoke about the decision earlier.
He added, during a call-in on one of the local channels that the governors are responsible for following up on the implementation of the government’s plan to rationalize electricity consumption in the governorates in cooperation with the Ministry of Local Development and the use of specialists to ensure that the adjustment of air conditions are set at 25 degrees.
He pointed to the demand for setting up early hours for football matches, and a suitable timing will be agreed upon for everyone, noting that the aim is not to reduce production consumption, but rather to reduce unnecessary consumption, and therefore a factory will not be required to reduce working hours, but rather it will demand a reduction in external lighting that does not affect production.
He added that everyone’s commitment to the plan will contribute to reducing gas consumption by 15%, and thus will save $450 million per month, noting that 60% of natural gas is directed to power stations and the remaining percentage is directed to all sectors, including domestic gas, factories and cars, with a total of approximately 7 sectors.
He pointed to the activation of the summer closure dates to close malls and stores at 11 pm in order to save energy, and about the summertime, he said, “It will be possible from next year to start working with the summer time.”
