Adimral Osama Rabie, President of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), has reviewed the project of developing the southern section of the canal that extends for 40 km, from 122 km to 162 km.

Admiral Rabie affirmed that the project aims at widening and deepening the water conduit to cope with new generations of ships that have not been built yet.

He added that the project comes within the framework of planning for the future.

The President of the SCA indicated that the project of upgrading the canal is carried out by dredgers of the authority clockwise without impeding navigation in the canal.

He pointed out that the old canal was a national project that took ten years in the second half of the 19th century and that 120 thousand people were martyred then.
