The birth of the royal baby of Sussex yesterday injected excitement across Britian, one day after Prince Harry couldn't contain his joy while announcing lovingly the birth of his son.

The delighted Duke of Sussex heaped praise on his wife, and new mum, Meghan Markle and confirmed both mother and baby were doing well.

He said: "I'm very excited to announce that Meghan and myself had a baby boy this morning, a very healthy baby boy. "I haven't been at many births. This is definitely my first birth - it was amazing, absolutely incredible. I'm so incredibly proud of my wife.. and as every father and parent would say, your baby is absolutely amazing."

Harry was at his wife's side throughout the birth.

He added: "How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension. But we're both absolutely thrilled. "We're both absolutely thrilled and so grateful for all the love and support from everybody out there, it's been amazing, so we just wanted to share this with everybody.

"But this little thing is absolutely to-die-for so I'm absolutely over the moon". "It's been the most amazing experience I could ever have possibly imagined."

Harry and Meghan will now spend the next few days celebrating at home and getting used to being parents.

The Queen is expected to head from Windsor Castle on Tuesday to meet the new royal baby for the first time, it has been claimed.

Meghan gave birth to her and Prince Harry's son at around 5.26am yesterday; the baby weighed around 7lb 3oz.

New reports claimed Meghan delivered the baby in a hospital, although Buckingham Palace is yet to confirm where exactly the birth took place. A great deal was made of Meghan's desire to follow in the footsteps of Her Majesty and have a homebirth. But as it turned out, the Duchess - a week overdue by this point - was whisked to a private hospital by her security team to deliver her newborn son.

But Harry's cosy family celebrations are a far cry from both his father and grandfather's reactions to their first-born.

On other hand, thrilled Kate and William have shared their joy at the birth of Meghan and Harry's son. The new aunt and uncle took to Instagram to express their delight at the latest addition to the family.

Using the Kensington Palace account they reposted the ‘it’s a boy’ photo the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared earlier. They wrote: “The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted with the news of the birth of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son today, and look forward to meeting the latest addition to the family.”
