Several newly-elected Quebec opposition lawmakers refused to swear an oath to the new head of state, King Charles III.

The 11 Quebec solidaire party members and three members of the Parti Quebecois refused to take the oath.

They presented loyalty to the people of Quebec, but it is unclear if they would keep their seats in the province's National Assembly.

Quebec solidaire spokesman Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois said in a news conference the members acted "with full knowledge of the facts."

He added: "We campaigned to change the era in Quebec and if we were sent to the legislature, it was to open windows."

In Early September, Canada proclaimed King Charles III as the head of the state after the death of Queen Elizabeth II on September 6 at Balmoral Castle.

Next, the body was moved to Edinburgh, then to London, and finally to Windsor where she was buried beside her father, mother, and beloved husband.

The Coronation will take place on May 6 at Westminister Abbey.
