Pyramids snatched Sunday a hard-fought 2-1 win over Al Masry in the 3rd round of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.

John Antwi had given Pyramids the lead in the 55th minute when Islam Issa zipped an excellent cross to the Ghanaian forward who planted a great header into the net. Saïdou Simporé equalized the scoring for Al Masry when he converted from a penalty spot in the 74th minute.

Dodo El Gabbas gave Pyramids the advantage one again in the 83rd after he fired a powerful shot from the outside of the box past Ahmed Masoud to seal the victory.

Pyramids now top Group A with nine points, while Al Masry came in the second spot with six points, as both teams were pooled in the same group, alongside Mauritanian side FC Nouadhibou and Enugu Rangers of Nigeria.

Pyramids named Friday the Croatian manager Ante Čačić as a new head coach. Pyramids sacked Sébastien Desabre, who was in charge of the Egyptian league club since July 8, due to bad results.

Pyramids  had to defeat the likes of Etoile du congo, CR Belouizdad, and Young Africans in order to reach this stage, while Al Masry beat Malindi and Côte d’Or to reach the group stage for the second time in their history.
