Preventive Measures against Corona Virus in Egyptian Universities

In order to preserve the health of students, Egyptian universities are preparing to confront the dangers of the emerging corona virus "COVID-19", as the Supreme Council of University Hospitals has put in place a number of measures that must be taken.

The Measures are as Follows:

First: Prevention of corona virus in Egyptian universities:

  • Ventilation of all classrooms and runways is carried out continuously, and closed rooms with closed ventilation should be excluded as the air must be fresh throughout the teaching periods.
  • Divide students into the largest number of classrooms to prevent overcrowding.
  • Attention to personal hygiene, especially hand hygiene.
  • Follow the cough etiquette: "Cover your nose and mouth when you sneeze or cough."
  • Good nutrition with plenty of fluids and adequate sleep for hours.
  • Avoid contact with anyone with symptoms of, cold or flu.
  • Students who suffer from any symptoms are alerted and checked for suspected infection with the virus.
  • Continuous awareness of students not to attend university if there are any symptoms of suspicion.
  • Any student suffering from any symptoms should wear a surgical mask or a mask to ensure the infection is contained and not spread.
  • Second: Prevention in the stands, classrooms and laboratories:

    The surfaces and walls are cleaned daily and a disinfectant of chlorine hydrogen oxides or quaternary ammonia should be used, taking into account the correct dilution and contact time according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  • The windows should be open continuously.
  • All devices are disinfected with a disinfectant for devices.
  • You should use a mask or a muzzle in enclosed spaces such as language laboratories, etc.
  • The number of classes can be increased to ensure a decrease in student density.
  • Toiletries and alcoholic disinfectants are provided in all laboratories that have devices that dogs can use.
  • Third: Student clinics:

  • Single use thermometers or any thermometer must be provided.
  • The doctor is trained in the clinic to identify the suspected case.
  • Hand hygiene items are provided, especially alcohol-based hand sanitizer, personal protective equipment. In addition to suspected case surgical mask - respiratory mask - jaw - gloves - goggles or protective face for healthier face."
  • A trained sanitation worker is assigned to clean and disinfect surfaces, walls and floors using a disinfectant of chlorine, hydrogen oxides or quaternary ammonia compounds "after receiving each case.
  • The person in charge of communicating with the university in the Health Directorate is appointed to facilitate the transfer of suspected cases. 6. Reporting immediately upon suspicion, with the case referred to the Fever Hospital or others, as determined by the Health Directorate in each governorate.
  • Fourth: Prevention: University cities:

  • University cities must provide a stock of dry meals, handwashing and chlorine supplies to disinfect surfaces, walls and floors.
  • One or more rooms must be allocated so that they are far from the students ’movement. They are allocated to isolate any student who suffers from high fever, coughing or any respiratory symptoms until examined by a doctor.
  • In case the case is suspected, the communication officer in the Health Directorate is informed, with the case transferred to the nearest hospital determined by the Ministry of Health in each governorate.
  • Personal protection tools, hand hygiene kits and alcohol hand disinfectants, as well as surfaces disinfectants, should be provided as above.
  • All single-use supplies used for the suspected case in red hazardous medical waste bags and safety box for sharp objects should be disposed of.
  • Reporting immediately upon suspicion, with the case referred to a fever hospital or others, as determined by the directorate of health in each governorate.
  • All contact details of the suspected case, especially the residence address and phone number, shall be recorded.
  • The results of the scientific analysis are followed up to confirm or deny case infection and complete the procedures of epidemiological investigation by the Preventive Medicine Department.
  • All single-use patient tools are disposed of in the red bag for hazardous medical waste and the safety box for acute waste.
