Poland's Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski announced that his country intends to start building a wall on the border with Belarus this year, in light of the migrant influx crisis between the two countries.

"The construction of the wall on the border (with Belarus) will begin this year," Kaminsky said in a tweet via his Twitter account.

Kaminsky added that the wall construction work will take place 24 hours a day, 3 shifts a day, with the participation of a number of companies to complete it.

Since last July, Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland have reported an increase in the number of illegal immigrants in transit from neighboring Belarus.

The immigrants who fled their home countries seek to thread their way to the territories of the European Union (EU).

These countries have accused the Belarus government of using the migration crisis to retaliate against the European Union for imposing sanctions earlier this year on officials in Belarus for alleged human rights abuses.

On his part, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko responded by saying that his country no longer has the ability to prevent the movement of migrants towards the European Union because of the sanctions.

In September, Poland declared a state of emergency in the regions bordering Belarus.

To enhance security, the authorities sent additional military and police personnel to the border and erected barbed wire fences in various locations.

The Polish-Belarus border has witnessed tension after thousands of illegal immigrants headed towards it, last Monday, to try to cross it towards Poland.

As a result, the Polish border guards strengthened their position by deploying thousands of additional soldiers, to prevent these migrants from crossing its borders.

The Polish authorities deployed 10 thousand soldiers from the border guards, to prevent migrants from entering its territory.
