The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development held a meeting headed by Dr. Ahmed Kamali, Deputy Minister of Planning, and in the presence of Ambassador Mohamed Nasr, Director of the Environment and Sustainable Development Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Eng. Khaled Mustafa, the Permanent Representative of the Ministry, assistants of the Minister, and a number of ministry leaders participated in the conference. The participants discussed preparations for Egypt’s hosting of the COP27 climate conference.

Dr. Kamali stressed the importance of environmental issues and the repercussions of the phenomenon of climate change across the world, which is currently one of the topics of the hour, affirming the importance of the role of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development in preparing for the next Conference of Parties to the COP27 Climate Change Agreement.

He pointed out the need for coordination with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and the  Ministry of Foreign Affairs during the preparation of the various events on the sidelines of the conference, in line with the direction of the Egyptian presidency of the Conference of the Parties and contribute to its success.

The Ministry of Planning is interested in including the environmental dimension within various national plans and strategies and international reports. Those plans include updating the sustainable development strategy (Egypt Vision 2030), and the third voluntary national report, which was presented during the high-level political forum for sustainable development in New York.

He added that the great interest in the environmental dimension was reflected on the projects listed in Chapter Six, through the application of environmental sustainability standards, and increasing the share of green projects to 30% of the state’s investment plan for the year 2021-2022, and reaching that percentage to 50% in 2024-2025.

On his part, Ambassador Mohamed Nasr reviewed all aspects and topics related to the United Nations Climate Change Agreement and the Paris Agreement, including the principles, provisions, and objectives of those agreements.
