Peruvian Foreign Minister Elizabeth Astete resigned amid talks over secretly vaccinating government officials against Coronavirus. This came before the country recently received a million doses for health workers facing a resurgence of the pandemic.
According to ABC News, President Francisco Sagasti confirmed Astete`s resignation and that Peruvians should feel anger at this situation. He said that this puts the effort of many Peruvians working on the front lines to confront the pandemic at risk.
Sagasti revealed that earlier he accepted the Health Minister Pilar Mazzetti`s due to a scandal over former President Martin Vizcarra having also received an early vaccination.
Last night, the new Minister of Health Oscar Ugarte said that Sagasti had ordered the dismissal of all officials who had secretly received the Chinese Coronavirus vaccine. He added that investigations are underway to determine those officials who were secretly vaccinated last September.
