According to a Pentagon spokesperson on Tuesday, China has turned down a US request for a phone contact between Chinese Defense Minister Wei Fenghe and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.
After shooting down a rumoured Chinese spy balloon off the coast of South Carolina on Saturday, the Pentagon requested a secure call, according to a statement from Brigadier General Patrick Ryder.
"Sadly, the PRC (China) has turned down our plea. We remain committed to maintaining open lines of communication "Added Ryder.
