Palestine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the Norwegian government’s decision to label products manufactured in the illegal Israeli settlements on occupied land post 4 June 1967.

The ministry affirmed that this step comes in line with the EU and Norwegian commitment to international law and the resolutions of the international legitimacy, including UN Security Council Resolution 2334.

“Norway’s decision is an important legal and moral step in the right direction, leading to a boycott of the products of the Israeli settlements, banning their entry and the entry of settlers to European countries and the world,” the ministry said in a statement.

“This is a right step in the way to impose sanctions on the occupying power, because settlement construction constitutes a grave violation of international law and signed agreements, and amounts to a war crime and a crime against humanity.”

Furthermore, it called on all countries to label and boycott products made in the Israeli settlements “in order to uphold an international system based on international law and enhance the human rights situation in occupied Palestine.”

In the same vein, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas held a meeting with a US delegation headed by the Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs Barbara Leaf.

Abbas stressed that the current situation cannot be tolerated in the absence of a political horizon and international protection for the Palestinian people.

He also highlighted Israel’s failure to fulfil its obligations in accordance with signed agreements and resolutions of international legitimacy.

The president said: “Our goal is to get rid of the occupation on the basis of the resolutions of international legitimacy. East Jerusalem is and will remain forever the capital of the State of Palestine.”
