Moeed Yousaf, Pakistan's National Security Advisor (NSA), met with Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman and told her that the international community should engage with the Taliban's newly formed government in Afghanistan.

During Sherman's two-day visit to Pakistan, he delivered this message.

This visit comes just a day after the US Deputy Secretary of State concluded her visit to India and reaffirmed the US's intention to expand its comprehensive global strategic partnership with India.

According to Geo News, Pakistan's NSA met with the Deputy State Secretary on Friday, and both leaders discussed bilateral issues as well as the changing situation in the region.

They also discussed economic cooperation, trade, and Afghanistan's security situation.

Yousaf said: "The international community needs to talk and engage with Afghanistan's new interim government."

Since the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan, Islamabad has urged the international community to recognize the country's interim government.

Except for a few countries such as China and Pakistan, no other country recognizes the group and is taking a wait-and-see approach.

This comes as policymakers and geopolitical experts in Washington are advocating a shift in outlook towards Islamabad following the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan which was reportedly aided by Pakistan.

This shift in the tide has been widely attributed to Pakistan's covert and overt support for the outfit, which resulted in the swift fall of Kabul's democratically elected government in August of this year.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated last month that Washington is looking to "reassess" its ties with Islamabad.

The Pakistan Foreign Office later expressed "surprise" at Blinken's remarks, saying they were not in line with the two countries' close cooperation.
