In cooperation with the Libyan armed forces, Tobruk Security Directorate is carrying out an operation to free Egyptian citizens, kidnapped by a criminal gang in Bardia, east of Tobruk, sources reported on Saturday.

Libyan sources stated that Tobruk Security Directorate is launching an extensive security campaign to arrest all criminal gangs, following repeated incidents of kidnapping foreigners in recent months, stressing that the security forces are fully alerted until all Egyptian citizens are back to their homes.

Families of young men from Al-Fabrika area in the city of Baba, south of Beni Suef, confirmed that 10 of their sons had been kidnapped on the Libyan borders.

“We received the news of my son-in-low’s kidnaping while he was in the microbus, on his way to Libya,” a relative to one of the kidnapped, named Abdul Hakeem said.

“The kidnappers demanded a ransom, hundred thousand pounds for each one to be released,” Abdul Hakeem added.

The microbus driver informed the families that their sons had been kidnapped in Libya and the gang demanded for ransom in order to release them.

The families panicked, calling on authorities to do something and save their sons, noting that they do not have this sum of money to pay.

The news went viral on social media and people started talking about Egyptian young men who got kidnapped in the microbus while heading to Libya, searching for work.
