Oman’s New Sultan Pledges to Stick to "Non-Interference" Policy

The new Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq, pledged, on Saturday, to follow his country's foreign policy of "non-interference".

He stressed that he will follow the path of late Sultan Qaboos bin Said who died on Friday, AFP reported.

He also confirmed that he will stick to his country’s foreign policy based on peaceful coexistence among nations and peoples, not interfering in the internal affairs of the others, and respecting the sovereignty of the other states.

Noteworthy, Oman has named, on Saturday, Haitham bin Tariq al-Said, 65 years old, as the country’s new ruler to succeed his cousin Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

Haitham bin Tariq held several positions in the Sultan, he is one of Sultan Qaboos’s close associates and envoy, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Main Committee for the Future Vision “Oman 2040. He also served as the secretary general for the ministry of foreign affairs, and undersecretary of the ministry of foreign affairs.

He also served as the head of the Omani Football Association from 1983 till 1986 and chaired the organizing committee of the 2nd Asian Beach Games in Muscat in 2010.

He assumed the position of Minister of Heritage and Culture from February 2002 until January 11, 2020.
