Olaf Scholz, the German Vice-Chancellor stresses that Germany must be an example in fighting against Climate Change, and as major industrial country, it must "take the lead."

The Leader of the social Democratic Party, who will take over the tasks next week said: "We in Germany take a great responsibility to make this work," referring to the fight against Climate Change.

"We will do this for us and at the same time for others because we are the ones to take the lead, as one of the most prosperous industrialized countries in the world, with the most modern technologies and the most efficient scientists," he added.

The new government is scheduled to take office on Wednesday after the members of parliament (Bundestag) elect Scholz as a chancellor. Before that, members of the Greens and the Free Democratic Party (FDP) must ratify the coalition document.

Robert Habeck, the co-leader of the Greens will take over the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy position in the new government. He will also be the vice Chancellor to Olaf Scholz.

Scholz's statements came during an exceptional conference in Berlin that gathered his party delegates to approve the coalition document signed with the Greens and the Liberals to succeed Angela Merkel's government.

About 600 delegates voted in favor of the agreement, and the opposition was limited to 7 delegates, while 3 others abstained.
