On Wednesday, the European Union (EU) leaders officially signed the Brexit trade agreement, ahead of its approval in Parliament.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel signed the deal reached with the UK.

On Twitter, Von der Leyen said, “Today, @eucopresident and I signed the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement. Prime Minister @BorisJohnson will sign it later today in London."

“It has been a long road. It’s time now to put Brexit behind us," she added. “Our future is made in Europe.”

Then, the documents are scheduled to be transported to London on a RAF plane for Prime Minister Boris Johnson to sign them.

The European Parliament will not give its approval before January 1, only scrutinizing the deal later, according to "the Mirror".

It is worth mentioning that, on Monday, the EU member states gave the green light to implement the Brexit deal on January 1 after unanimously approving the deal.

The agreement regulates the trade relationship after the UK’s exit from the European Union.

The EU and British negotiators reached a post-Brexit trade agreement last Thursday.

The deal will remain for British exports to comply with health and safety standards set by the European Union, while strict rules govern products made with ingredients sourced outside the UK or the European Union.
