Regarding women empowerment, the Minister of Investment and International Cooperation, Sahar Nasr, took part in a high-level reception ceremony held by Switzerland Embassy in Cairo. The event witnessed hailing the Egyptian efforts in this regard.

On the occasion of holding the National Debate Center for Economic Empowerment of Women Conference due to take place on Monday, the ministry of investment will hold a conference to which high-level and prestigious figures are invited.

Nasr said that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, since beginning of his era, has instructed to empower women in all fields.

As a result, the ministry dedicated a legal article in the Investment Law on the empowerment of women economically.

“For the first time in the history of Egypt, Egyptian cabinet embraces eight female ministers,” Nasr added.

She manifested that the women representation in the House of Representatives reached 15 percent, describing it as “unprecedented moment.”

“These figures reflect the state efforts to empower women politically, social and economically,” the minister noted.

She stressed that the National Debate for Women's Economic Empowerment Conference is an opportunity to exchange ideas and reach the best policies to make women an effective part of the Egyptian economy.

Women Empowerment in Egypt

Gabriela Ramos, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Chief of Staff, said that the OECD seeks to support the Egyptian government's plans to empower women and support them in the economic reform agenda.

“The Egyptian minister of investment plays a significant role to pave the way for women empowerment in the field of economy,” Ramos added.

Ramos is responsible for the contributions of the Organization to the global agenda, including the G20 and the G7. She leads the Inclusive Growth Initiative and the New Approaches to Economic Challenges and also oversees the work on Education, Employment and Social Affairs (including gender).

She noted that the employment rates of women have increased from 23 percent to 50 percent, manifesting that “This will lead to increase of the growth rate by about 7 percent.”

“Women empowerment is an economic issue, not only social,” she emphasized.

Sisi's directives in this regard

Ambassador Jan Teslev, Ambassador of Sweden to Cairo, said that President Sisi has made many efforts to empower women, as part of his policy to rebuild Egypt.

“I guess Sisi do believe that Egypt's basic wealth lies in its human resources,” added Teslev.

He asserted that both the government and public have to cooperate to reach the utmost utilization of the human treasure. “Empowering women in development plans is a key factor in supporting growth.”

The Swiss ambassador affirmed his country’s eagerness to deepen cooperation with the Egyptian government in this field.
