On Friday, New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern commented on Auckland's terrorist attack.

She started her statement by describing the attack by a "violent extremist" who is known for the authorities, asserting: "A violent extremist undertook a terrorist attack on innocent New Zealanders."

The Prime Minister highlighted: "This was someone who was known to our national security agencies and was of concern and was being monitored constantly. There are very few that fall into this category."

Ardern also affirmed that the attacker adapts ISIS terrorist ideology.

It is worthy to mention that the accident took place early Friday as a knifeman initiated an attack against people in a market in Auckland city. He injured six persons, three of them are in serious condition.

The knifeman was shortly shot by the police.

Police Commissioner Andrew Coster said: "We were doing absolutely everything possible to monitor him and indeed the fact that we were able to intervene so quickly, in roughly 60 seconds, shows just how close we were watching him.
