The New York Times (NYT) reported that US President Joe Biden may deploy thousands of US troopers, ships, and aircraft to the Baltic states and Eastern Europe, due to the situation around Ukraine.

And the US newspaper quoted sources saying, “Biden may make a decision in this regard this week.” According to the newspaper, "in this case, part of the army will be transferred from the United States of America (USA), and the rest from other parts of Europe. So far, nothing is under consideration about sending troops to Ukraine."

The sources also indicated that senior officials in the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) presented to Biden on Saturday several options for action. Among them is sending 1,000 to 5,000 troops to Eastern European countries, with the possibility of a "tenfold increase" in their number if the situation worsens.

The authorities in Ukraine, the US administration, and its allies claim insistently that Russia is amassing large forces, numbering more than 100,000, near the border with Ukraine "in preparation for a new invasion" of Ukrainian territory.

Russia has repeatedly stressed that it has no intention of launching any operation against Ukraine.

Moscow stressed that all reports about this are false, and the purpose of these allegations is to escalate tension in the region and inflame anti-Russian rhetoric in preparation for imposing new economic sanctions and as a justification for NATO expansion to the east, which it opposes and says it threatens Russia’s national security.
