No Risk, No Gain- El Gouna Story

opinion .

El Gouna is a modern resort town on Egypt’s Red Sea, near Hurghada. It’s built along the shore and on small islands, and is known for its lagoons, coral reefs and sandy beaches ‘.

The above is what you will get when you google El Gouna , however, the story behind it is what inspires me the most.

Back in the 1989 to be exact, an Egyptian investor who owns a construction/development company decided to take a leap of faith and to build a community out there and he called it ‘ El Gouna ‘.

Back then that was a risk, the place was far from the capital Cairo , not very handy to go there due to distance and you either had to fly locally or internationally or take a long ride from the main cities of Egypt to reach your destination.

The project started off with few hotels but with a vision and lots of hard work to bring El Gouna to a state of the art level on all fronts, look at it now, its more of wold wonder built in a modern age.

This whole establishment happened and became a living reality just because a man had a dream and he went ahead and pursued it .

Yes, he was a rich businessman back then but he still took the risk and invested with no solid 100% assurance that he would cover up his ROI given the country economical and financial challenges.

The intention of my article is not to praise Samih Sawiris and his project, rather its more of showcasing to us all how dreaming big and taking risks can have a happy ending.

Each one of us comes across risks but we choose to just lay low and be safe in our comfort zone though some risks just turn out to be the best decisions we have ever made.

Let's not take huge risks but at least calculated ones, those small risks will help us test the water before we jump in it with both feet.

Taking a risk and changing things is the only way to know if it will work out for you or not , a wiseman said once: If you try, you could win but if you do not try you definitely lose.

In fact, if you think of it, the biggest risk is not taking one, our mind always tries to keep us safe and this is how exactly we never do what we dream of doing, we become prisoners of our own minds and our brain just gives us a million reasons not to go for something while all the odds encourages us to go for it.

One very nice quote I truly believe in says: ‘ You can measure opportunity with the same yardstick that measures the risk involved. They go together ‘.Or in other simple words , it all ties up to this: No Risk , No Gain .

Choice is yours,  to give it a shot or to die never knowing .
