On Monday, New Zealand Foreign Minister Nanaia Mahuta said her country's government has announced imposing a new package of sanctions against the Russian military-industrial complex and the Russian armed forces.

"We have imposed sanctions against the Russian armed forces and a number of defense bodies responsible for the transfer of weapons and military equipment," Mahuta said in a statement.

She added that the country also imposed sanctions on "the insurance company "Sogaz", the Russian Railways, and a number of enterprises that invent, produce and test military equipment for the Russian armed forces."

The foreign minister also mentioned that the new law on sanctions against Moscow, which was unanimously approved by the New Zealand Parliament last March, provides for a wide range of measures, including travel bans, asset freezes, financial operations, and the transit of Russian ships and planes to New Zealand's borders.

Wellington has so far imposed sanctions against more than 650 Russian citizens, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, and representatives of the Russian State Duma, in addition to sanctions against 93 Russian facilities and institutions.
