National Center for Translation Offers EGP 175000 Award at CIBF

The National Center for Translation is organizing a new competition on the occasion of the Cairo International Book Fair 51st edition to be opened on January 22. The competition`s Awards will reach EGP175 000.

It is allocated for works which were translated into Arabic. The competition is pided into three sub-competitions; the first is the Rifa'a Al-Tahtawi Award for translation with a value of EGP 10000; the second is the Scientific Translation Award (in the fields of natural sciences of all kinds) with a value of EGP 5000, and the third is the Youth Award for translation with a value of EGP 25000.

The awards will be presented with a commemorative shield and certificate of appreciation. The Center set the period for handing over the works from January 1 to February 27, under the following conditions:

1. The work must be translated and published in one of the Egyptian or Arabic publishing houses.

2. The translated work must have intellectual property rights.

3. The work should be translated from the original language.

4. The first edition of the translated work should be issued during the previous three years from the date the award was opened.

5. The applicant chooses one of the three prizes to apply for, and with one job.

6. It is not permissible to submit works that have previously won prizes in translation, or submitted for a prize from another party at the same time.

7. The age of the youth prize applicant at the time of applying for the award not exceed 40 years.

8. It is not permissible for those who won the prize before applying for a second time except after 5 years have passed.

9. Applicants are not allowed to apply for Rafa’ah Al-Tahtawi Prize with a translation, which was reviewed by another person.

Once the conditions are met, the work becomes eligible to apply with a number of papers, namely: Form for participation in the award (can be obtained from the headquarter of the center), a definition of the translated work in no more than 1000 words, a brief biography of the translator with a personal photo, a copy of the national ID card, a copy of the approval of the owner of the rights to the translation, photocopies of Foreign labor, 5 original work.
