The defence ministry of the Nagorno-Karabakh region announced on Tuesday that it had recorded another 17 casualties among its servicemen which raised the military death toll to 542, according to Reuters.
On Monday, Azerbaijan and ethnic Armenian forces accused each other of launching new attacks in and around Nagorno-Karabakh, increasing strains on a two-day-old humanitarian ceasefire intended to end heavy fighting over the mountain enclave.
On his part, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia, which brokered the ceasefire, is closely monitoring the events and asked Azeri and ethnic Armenian forces to respect the ceasefire.
The conflict has surged to its worst level since the 1990s, when some 30,000 people were killed.
