MPs Begin to Vote to Elect Parliament's Speaker

Members of the House of Representatives (MPs) begin to vote process to elect the speaker of the Parliament in its second legislative term 2021/2026 kicked off on Tuesday.

The oldest member Farida Choubachi was the first to vote followed by the youngest MPs; Fatma Selim and Abanob Ezzat.

MP Hanafi Gebaly, MP Mohamed Salah Abu Homaila, MP Ahmed Abdel Hakim Youssef, and MP Mohamed Madina run for speaker of the parliament.

Meanwhile, MP Farida Choubachi, the head of the inaugural session of the House of Representatives, thanked the political leadership for holding the parliamentary elections in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

Following the MPs' taking the constitutional oath, Choubachi noted that Egypt had succeeded in organizing the elections in difficult times.

She also thanked President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for his continuous support to the Egyptian woman, lauding the women's representation at the parliament.

She thanked the National Elections Authority, the Armed Forces and Police for securing the electoral process.
