Tourism Min. Participates in WTM2021 in London

Today, Dr. Khaled Al-Enani, Minister of Tourism & Antiquities, participated as a speaker in the ministerial summit organized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) in cooperation with the World Tourism and Travel Council (WTTC) and the London International Tourism Exchange (WTM) on "Investing for the Future of Sustainable Tourism.”

This came on the sidelines of the minister's current visit to London, the capital city of the United Kingdom (UK), to participate in the activities of the London International Tourism Exchange World Travel Market (WTM2021) which started yesterday and will continue from 1 to 3 November.

A number of tourism ministers of the UK, Italy, Jordan, Portugal, Bahrain, the Philippines and the Malpes participated in the ministerial discussion, in addition to the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (WTO), the Executive Director of the World Tourism and Travel Council (WTTC), and a group of aviation, tourism and hotel experts.

During the session, the tourism ministers and senior officials at travel industry discussed the future of sustainable tourism, especially in light of climate change, and ways to encourage increased investment in sustainable tourism, which greatly contributes to laying the foundations for achieving more inclusiveness, flexibility and sustainability, and thus provides better support for the tourism sector and its workers.

Dr. Al-Anani began his speech by expressing his happiness at participation in this summit in person, especially after two years of holding various international tourism meetings, conferences and exhibitions that are held virtually.

He praised the efforts made by everyone and cooperating together to resume the tourism movement globally, thanking the Organization World Tourism, the World Tourism and Travel Council (WTTC) and the London International Tourism Exchange (WTM) to organize this important summit that discusses the sustainable tourism file that imposes itself on the scene in light of the climate changes that the world is witnessing.

During his speech, the minister briefly talked about the Egypt 2030 strategy, which is based on eight axes and aims to improve the standard of living of the Egyptian citizen in various aspects with achieving high, comprehensive and sustainable economic growth and a strong, competitive and persified economy.

He pointed out that Egypt is working to make this growth based on knowledge, digital transformation, raise the degree of flexibility, competitiveness of the economy with increasing employment rates and creating decent job opportunities, improving the investment environment and enhancing the culture of entrepreneurship, in addition to striving to achieve financial inclusion and integrating the environmental and social dimension into economic development.

Dr, Al Enani also added that this strategy includes achieving environmental sustainability through the rational use of resources in a manner that preserves the rights of future generations in a safer and more effective future, explaining that this is achieved by confronting the effects of climate change, which the Egyptian state pays great attention to through the existence of an integrated and sustainable ecosystem that enhances flexibility, adaptability and ability to face risks and natural disasters, increasing reliance on renewable energy, and adopting sustainable consumption and production patterns.
