Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, announced that the strategic reserve of basic commodities is safe and sufficient for 6 to 7 months, thanks to the directives of the political leadership.
In his statements on the sidelines of the opening of the Commercial Registry Office in Beni Suef Governorate, some 110 km south of Cairo, he indicated that the strategic reserve of wheat is sufficient for up to 7.3 months, and about 4 million tons of local wheat have been supplied so far.
He added that since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, about 1.8 million tons of wheat have been imported from various countries.
With regard to Egyptian wheat stranded in Ukrainian ports, Moselhi said that it was included in the export list, within the agreement signed by Ukraine and Russia under the auspices of the United Nations (UN) to export grains that have been held in Ukrainian ports since the beginning of the crisis.
The minister noted that there is a boat loaded with about 63 thousand tons of wheat that were completed after the outbreak of the war.
Three days later, the boat could not be moved, and she is now waiting for a safe exit from the Ukrainian port (safe corridors).
