Middle East's Largest Dredger "Hussein Tantawy" Arrives in Suez Canal

Osama Rabie, head of the Suez Canal Authority announced the arrival of the new dredger "Hussein Tantawy", the latest and largest dredger in the Middle East on Tuesday, to the Suez Canal, carried on board the heavy Load Carrier "Tai An Kou".

Osama Rabie said, in a statement on Tuesday, that the dredger arrived from the Rotterdam port, Netherlands, and waiting in the Great Bitter Lake to float the dredger and separate it from the ship, in preparation for joining the authority’s fleet in a major celebration.

According to the statement, the dredger "Hussein Tantawi" has advanced specifications, with a total length of 147.4 meters, a width of 23 meters, a draft of 5.5 meters, and a productivity of 3,600 cubic meters of sand per hour along its 4 km floating ejection line.

The dredger has a total capacity of 29,190 km Watt, with the ability to deal with all types of soil, including rocky.

It will participate in the completion of the project of duplication, expansion and deepening of the navigation canal once operation examinations are concluded.

The dredger is named after field marshal  Mohamed Hussein Tantawy, one of Egypt's most commemorated army officers.
