Medical College of NGU Launches Electronic Forum to Discuss Coronavirus

The Faculty of Human Medicine at New Giza University launched the electronic medical forum, which targeted workers in the health system and students of different medical colleges in order to present the latest practical and research developments of the emerging Covid 19 virus. The forum will also answer many questions that concern workers in the health system, as well as other questions that occupy citizens worried about the dangers of being infected.

This forum is the first of its kind organized by students of the College of Human Medicine in cooperation with the professors of the college and under the auspices of the dean of the college Dr. Lamia Mohsen; it was attended by more than 450 people who participated in many questions, and discussed several topics, most notably, the impact of Covid-19 on Healthcare services for chronic diseases, problematic patients with weakened immunity and corona virus, and medical measures followed with corona virus disease.

The forum also touched on the importance of community awareness campaigns provided by students through various student organizations and teams to meet the needs of society in light of the exceptional circumstances and solidarity with the Egyptian community, in addition to the contributions of university students with the Food Bank and the Orman Association to lift the suffering of the affected groups in society.

The conference, via video conference, was attended by Dr. Ahmed Sameh Farid, founder and president of New Giza University, former Minister of Health, Dr. Lamia Mohsen, dean of the Faculty of Medicine at New Giza University, and professor of pediatrics and neonatology at Cairo University, and Dr. Ibrahim Al Ibrashi Professor and Head of Department Internal Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Faculty of Medicine, Kasr El-Ainy, Cairo University, Dr. Mervat Matar, Professor of Hematology, and former President of the National Institute of Diabetes and Endocrinology, and Dr. Ahmed Ihab, Professor of Human Genetics and Molecular Medicine.

Dr. Ahmed Sameh Farid said that the repercussions of the Covid 19 virus are new to the community and in particular the university community, stressing that the new Giza University is keen on community participation in all fields, especially in the field of scientific research and its funding to counter the Coronavirus.

Dr. Al-Ibrashi said that patients suffering from chronic cardiovascular diseases have a higher death rate among them than patients with chronic chest diseases, and diabetics come after heart patients in the groups most likely to die; he requested them to maintain the normal rates of blood sugar in order to avoid any medical complications.

On the other hand, Dr. Matar said that cancer patients should isolate themselves due to their weak immunity and try to avoid any medical facilities by replacing chemotherapy with another such as regular oral medication "if possible" and follow these patients with electronic means.

She also stressed the need to avoid spinal cord transfusions in the current period to reduce exposure to infection in the case of immunodeficiency, as it touched on blood transfusion protocols in light of the Corona crisis.

Furthermore, Dr. Ihab emphasized that, according to researches, the Coronavirus is a modified virus that came from some animals and some claim that it was leaked from factories in Wuhan and not manufactured, explaining that he does not believe in what is said to be the virus that was manufactured, but the days are able to prove everything with science.

He said that genetic genetics helped diagnose the Corona virus, and a PCR device was relied upon to diagnose patients, and that recently, some rapid examination devices that relied on antibodies and not genetic makeup appeared, explaining that these devices do not have sufficient accuracy, and that there is a diagnostic device better than all of these devices, which is "isothermal amplification", which gives better and more accurate results, but this device is only available in the United States of America.

On his side, Dr. Mohsen said, she is proud of the college students for their great efforts in various awareness fields, in addition to providing an ideal model for social responsibility, explaining that the electronic forum is part of the social responsibility of the College of Medicine, noting that the college students were the ones who prepared, coordinated and managed the forum in a gesture It is the first of its kind in the universities of Egypt.

Lastly, Dr. Lamis Ragab, Vice President of New Giza University, said that Covid 19 which attacked the world without preparation will make a big change in the educational systems and management of educational institutions.

She added that the pandemic made clear to students, in practical terms, the importance of self-education and continuous professional development, as well as the role of science and scientists who stand side by side with decision makers and are fighting at the same time the most noble battles.
