The future of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and France forward Kylian Mbappé has been the subject of controversy among the football community. The 20-year-old being heavily linked with Real Madrid and European champions Liverpool, among other suitors who would like to sign him but probably can’t afford him.

PSG have apparently set Mbappé’s value at a whopping €400m, which in all reality only three or four clubs in the world would even consider trying to pay the required sum. With the cards very much in the hands of the Parisians, PSG have now decided to table an offer for Mbappé that would elevate him to the same salary as Neymar and convince him to stay at the Parc des Princes whatever temptations may be put in front of him.

Previous reports have claimed Liverpool have the required money to sign the French international, but Jurgen Klopp, who met the player’s family members in an bid to convince him to sign for Liverpool two years ago, says they have “absolutely no chance” of signing the player.

“Buying this calibre of player is difficult,” said Klopp. “I don’t see any club at the moment who can buy Kylian Mbappe from PSG. I don’t see any club, that is how it is. And we are involved in the clubs that cannot do it. It is as easy as that.

“OK, from a sporting point of view, there are not a lot of reasons to not sign him. What a player he is. But it is about the money of course. No chance. Absolutely no chance. Sorry for killing that story.”

However, the story refuses to disappear and Spanish newspaper Marca are convinced that Mbappe will move on in summer 2020, with PSG drawing up a shortlist of potential replacements for the World Cup winner.
