Matadors Defeat Pharaohs at World Handball Championship

HERNING, Jan. 26 (SEE) – Spain defeated Egypt 36-31 at the IHF World Handball Men’s Championship.  The match took place on Saturday at Jyske Bank Boxen, Herning, Denmark.

Spain marked the first goal almost

in the first minute. Egypt’s Ahmed El-Ahmar scored Egypt’s first goal in the

second minute. The first half’s score was 18-17 to the Pharaohs.

At the end of the second half the

gap between both team became manifest, to the point that in the 54th

minute the result was 35-28 to the Matadors.

According to the final result, Spain finished seventh, while Egypt ranked eighth. 32-year-old Spanish Joan Cañellas was named the Man of the Match.

Worth noting is the Matadors

Spain the championship in 2005 and 2013. It won the bronze medal in 2011. Spain

ended fourth in 1999, 2003, and 2015. On the other side, Egypt’s highest rank

was in 2001 when they caught fourth place.
