Majida El Roumi Dispute with Kimaera Band Goes Viral

The latest statement of the iconic Lebanese singer Majida El Roumi  went viral after rejecting the Lebanese Death Metal Kimaera version of her song "Ya Beirut" (Beirut). The song was aired on many Lebanese TV channels.

The statement expressed El Roumi's objection against any illegal use of her copyrights without previous request.

In addition, she asserted her rejection of the music video the band issued of the cover.

Describing it as an "abusing" and "racist" music video, El Roumi explained that the cover was a destructive work for such a beautiful song.

In the same context, El Roumi announced that the renowned poet Nizar Qabbani family who owns the copyrights of the song's lyrics supported her for this legal situation.

Therefore, she asked the legal authorities to take the necessary actions for preserving her copyrights.

Until this moment, the band didn't issue any official statements regarding the dispute, however, they shared various positive reviews written about the music a few days.

On his behalf, celebrated Lebanese metal musician and organizer Bassem Deaibess commented on the incident on his Facebook account, "I do not think such an established and prominent band in the Lebanese, Middle Eastern and International scenes, would venture into such work without asking permission from the artist. They understand how copyright works."

In addition, he replied to El Roumi's office's statement that they are helping in destroying the Metal music industry in Lebanon.

The strive of copyrights issue previously went viral after Rema and Zeyad El Rahbanni published a statement asking the authorities to stop any illegal actions that hand El Rahbani brothers and Zeyad El Rahbani music.

It is worthy to mention that it is not the first trending dispute involve the Metal scene in Lebanon as many concerts were canceled 2 years ago especially the one headlined by the international Brazillian band Sepultura.

Kimaera is one of the most celebrated Metal bands in the Middle East; in addition, they are widely internationally recognized.

Founded in 2000, the band's music is a combination of symphonic riffs and death metal melodies with slight mixing of oriental music.
