CAIRO, SEPT 2 (SEE)- Director General of the Historic Cairo Antiquities Department Mohamed Abdel Aziz said on Saturday that the project to restore the historic Cairo's Magra Al-Oyoun wall is being conducted to turn the region into a tourist attraction.
The 2,800-meter-long fence extends from Fom el-Khalig overlooking the Nile River to the Sayyida Aisha area near the Cairo citadel.
Abdel Aziz added that the project includes the construction of a walkway from Abu Alraish Square to Magra Al-Oyoun wall. An existing hub that will be built to provide suitable pedestrian and traffic space, in addition to linking the area with other attraction sites.
He pointed out that the area will include residential areas, stadiums, and clubs, as well as a handicraft industry, while the northern Cairo wall will be a touristic site. "A garden will be built around the wall making the area an open heritage museum," he added.
