France's President Emmanuel Macron has started Lebanon trip by meeting iconic singer Fairuz at her home in Beirut.

Macron awarded Fairuz the “Legion of Honor,” the highest French distinction of military and civil merits.

Fairuz, 85, is famously private and rarely seen in public but throughout her career has roused fans with her songs about love and in praise of the beauty of her troubled nation.

Macron arrived in Beirut for his second visit to Lebanon after the massive blast which hit the city port in August 4th, and killed 190 and displaced hundreds of families.

Macron was received by President Michel Aoun and newly appointed Prime Minister-designate Mostafa Adib at the airport.

“I tell the Lebanese that you are brothers of the French. As I promised you, I am returning to Beirut to review developments regarding emergency aid and to work together to create the necessary conditions for reconstruction and stability,” Macron said in tweet just after he landed.

“Macron is also scheduled to meet members of Lebanon’s political leadership as he returns to the country in search of serious reform,” the Elysee said Friday.

Macron’s visit is his second one in less than a month after the August 4 blast at the Beirut port that killed 181 people and revived calls for radical change in the country.
