8 Icons Honored during "Lycee El-Horreya" Theater Inauguration

Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem, Minister of Culture, and Mohamed El-Sharif, Governor of Alexandria, inaugurated Lycee El-Horreya Theater in Alexandria after its rehabilitating based on the latest modern systems.

During the inauguration, the two officials honored eight cultural and artistic icons for their efforts to enrich the theatrical movement.

The ceremony was attended by the artist Khaled Galal, head of the cultural production sector, Dr. Ahmed Awad, head of the General organization of Culture palaces and artist Ismail Mukhtar, head of the Artistic House of Theater and an array of artists, dramatists and the fans of the cultural affairs.

Abdel Dayem said that in the month of glorious victories, of October, the Ministry is reopening a new beacon for theatrical art and creativity in Alexandria governorate, the country that always gifted Egypt with heroes and stars .

Abdel Dayem confirmed that the inauguration of “Lycee El-Horreya" Theater, after a three-year hiatus of replacement and renewal is an evidence of the importance of the role of soft power in achieving the advancement of society and in building the Egyptian character.

The minister indicated that “Lycee El-Horreya" Theater is an addition to the creative and cultural work system in Egypt.

The minister thanked everyone who contributed to the return of this theatrical edifice to its brilliance again, appreciating the legal, engineering and technical efforts of all the participants of the executives in Alexandria Governorate , the employees of the artistic house of theater , the executing company, the leaders responsible for “ Egyptian author's initiative “ –who helped in creating generations of creators.

She invited creators to participate in the production of more theatrical works to be presented on this unique stage.

On his part, Major General al-Sharif emphasized the obsession of the people of Alexandria with culture and the arts, indicating that “ Lycée Theater” is one of the most important heritage theaters in the governorate.

Al-Sharif explained that the art of theater occupies a special place in the lives of peoples because it is the mirror that reflects the features of society, shaping its consciousness.

In the same context, Director Khaled Jalal and artist Ismail Mukhtar also praised the great efforts the Ministry of Culture exerts to develop and modernize the infrastructure of cultural and artistic sites, especially theaters, to activate the enlightening message of arts.

Is worthy of note that during the inauguration ceremonies, the minister and the Governor honored a group of cultural and artistic figures for their efforts to enrich the theatrical movement in Alexandria.

The honored icons included the late Mohamed Ghoneim, the former first deputy of the Ministry of Culture- received by his widow Dr. Abdel Aziz, the name of the late star Mahmoud Abdel Aziz- received by his son Muhammad Mahmoud Abdel Aziz- who dedicated this honor to the martyrs of Egypt in Sinai and to the name of the late Mahmoud Yassin, the able Mahmoud Yassin, the name of the late writer Mahmoud Al-Toukhi - received by his daughter Nagwa Mahmoud Al-Toukhi, the name of the late musician Hamdi Raouf, Dr. Abu Al-Hassan Salam, the former head of the National Center for Theater, the artist Othman Muhammad Ali.

In addition to honoring many of the participants of the theatrical initiative "The Egyptian Author “, namely: Dr. Jamal Yaqout - for the show “ the House, Ahmed Abdel-Gawad for the show “ Kharegh Al Magmoua- outside the group, Saeed Qabeel for the show “Zahaba AL Laylou ”, Ihab Mabrouk for the show “The Fisherman's Tales and Prince of the Sea”, Ahmed Mustafa for the show “Six Star Passport”, Ahmed Jaber for the show “Farha Mattamit” and others.

It is noteworthy that the activities of the opening ceremony included presenting a short video dealing with the stages of the theater before and after its renovation, in addition to presenting the play “outside the group” that deals with the problem of bullying - including the "Egyptian Author" initiative, written and directed by Ahmed Abdel-Gawad.

Furthermore, the operations of renovating and raising the efficiency of “Lycee El Horreya” theater included the work system of the civil protection according to the latest fire codes, alarm panels, firefighting network, electrical works of maintenance of all the panels and cables of the theater, stage, artist rooms, in addition to the usual work of paints and renewal of the external theater and the main entrance and showroom.

Lycee El Horreya theater is located on an area of 1050 square meters, consisting of a ground floor that includes an entrance hall with attached spaces for public services, administrative rooms, a theater that can accommodate 550 spectators, as well as rooms for artists.
